One would think after almost 40 years of volunteering, Frannie Martin would be ready to call it quits and hang up the towel for good. But this Nashville’s Volunteer of the Month sees no end in sight for her service work and still enjoys it every week. “It’s always been a part of my life, and I can’t imagine going on without it,” says Martin, “I feel I have gotten so much out of it personally and grown so much as a person. I really can’t imagine not doing it at this point.” Martin has volunteered in a plethora of avenues and especially loves helping Nashville’s youth aging out of foster care and deterring homelessness. “That really got me into it – seeing the cases of teenagers who were in foster care and aging out, with no skills, no preparation, and no support – it was just a terrible thing having to watch over and over again.” To change the situation for future youth, Martin has spent the last twelve years volunteering with the Oasis Center by helping provide food, clothing, and other necessities for youth in need. “I have a strong feeling that everyone needs to do this, and that’s what I hope my own children will do.”
