La Toya Murdock gives back to her Middle Tennessee community by serving on three different boards for nonprofits. Daughters of the King is a nonprofit which facilitates positive change in young people’s lives by providing school supplies, backpacks, hygiene kits, and more as well as bringing meals to the homes of older residents; the Educational Scholarship Fund, formally known as Junior Miss, which rewards scholarships to promising young women in academics, community service, leadership, and health; and the Ray of Light Foundation which provides quality snacks (which taste good!) to patients in children’s hospitals.
La Toya’s overall goal through her service is to give others “a moment to forget…” their trials and tribulations. Sometimes she serves children going through radiation and chemotherapy, and other times she serves shut-in’s who may otherwise not speak with another person that day.
“Don’t take what you currently have for granted,” she says. “The volunteerism, it humbles you…because in the blink of an eye, that could be me on the receiving end.”
This purposeful volunteer shines the light on others and gives them moments to lighten their days. Listen to her podcast on Spotify, Apple, Amazon, or Red Circle.
