Cylinda Smith: Joy Despite Loss

Most of us experience loss. Some experience it more often than others. Sometimes the reason for each loss is explained, such as cancer, while other times the loss is surprising, mysterious, or simply not understood. Regardless, we must process the loss to live our new normal. For those of us who are lucky enough to find Roberta’s House, Cylinda Smith is one of their volunteers who walks with us through our grief journey.

Cylinda is the grandmother of a large family who finds time to volunteer for her church as well as Roberta’s House. This unique 501c3 nonprofit provides support groups and programs for people of all ages who have experienced loss.

While grief expresses itself differently for each person and each situation, the nonprofit programs provide opportunity. Cylinda says, “You’re talking, you’re sharing. It’s like everybody is family. You’re bonding together. Some people stay connected, become friends. It’s really awesome.”

While some particularly enjoy their destination, Cylinda thrives in the daily walk with each person she serves toward emotional healing and joy despite loss.

Tune in to this uplifting episode of the Doing Good podcast to hear Cylinda’s updates, joys, struggles, and journey.
