Pastor Luis Sura first heard the word “volunteer” from his mother when he was a child. In the beginning, he only believed the word meant to help people. Now, as his experience as a volunteer and working the business side of a nonprofit has grown, that word has come to mean so much more. It’s now about helping people by volunteering to do what you know and what you love.
Pastor Luis has been in Nashville, Tennessee for almost four decades. When he heard the call to the ministry, he left for Texas in 2000 to start his schooling. In 2007, he returned, moving his family to the Franklin, Tennessee area in order to develop church communities in the Middle Tennessee area.
To make a change in his new home, he founded the nonprofit organization Better Option TN, which he runs as its president while still working part-time as an assistant pastor. Since he arrived in Tennessee, he’s helped start three churches and has worked as a Board Member for several other organizations and nonprofits.
With his children grown and out of the house, Pastor Luis and his wife have given even more of their time to participate in community outreach, especially educational projects that share information on different cultures, which he also promotes through the Better Option TN mission statement.
