Krazy Kyle! Many know him as a pro MMA fighter, yet few know his softer side. This young man has already lived a full life – born and raised in Tennessee, introduced to God by his mom, experienced the loss of a baby brother, became a professional martial arts athlete, married and became a father to six, and works as a chef and jiu jitsu teacher.
Kyle Lee didn’t set out to volunteer. Instead, one conversation led to another, and as Kyle says, “God opens doors.” During a series of church conversations and experiences, he learned about Tennessee Prison Outreach Ministry (TPOM) and the idea of volunteering for them. He jumped into the opportunity and now teaches two classes in a prison on behalf of TPOM. One is a parenting class, and the other is Christians Against Substance Abuse. TPOM provides the class materials and guidance for these volunteers, and each volunteer brings his/her own experiences to the class.
Each class lasts several weeks. During this time, Kyle develops relationships with the inmates who look to him as a mentor or role model. “I couldn’t be happier and more blessed just to do it once a week. If I could do it all day, I would,” he says. “It’s an honor just to kind of rub shoulders with them, love on them. I come out of there feeling amazing.”
Kyle says it’s all because of God. “It’s funny that if you just went and did what He told you to do, you would be so fulfilled and have purpose in your life.” Kyle listened and followed, finding that the experience has contributed to his personal growth and development. He is happy having found his purpose, and wants the same for others. Once that purpose is found, he says, “it just radiates out of you.”
